Could a Soul Reaver reboot be in the works?

VG247 has suggested that the PlayStation classic Soul Reaver may be rebooted by Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the original game and the upcoming Tomb Raider revamp.

Claiming that it has the story on “good authority”, the site hints that this will be a “full reworking of the vampire action classic, and includes a new art direction”. However, an E3 2012 showing may be unlikely after it went on to suggest that reports indicating as much might not be accurate. As can be expected, Square Enix (of which Crystal Dynamics is a subsidiary) have since told CVG that they do not comment on speculation or rumour.

Soul Reaver was a 1999 sequel to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (released in 1996) and cast players as Raziel, a vampire resurrected as a wraith. Aside from PSN re-releases, the series hasn’t seen a new game since Legacy of Kain: Defiance in 2003.
